CLS Law Student Ministries: Mission

Our Mission

1. To nurture and encourage Christian law students by providing mentors and resources aimed at fostering spiritual growth, compassionate outreach, and the integration of faith and practice; and

2. To establish vibrant Christian Legal Society student chapters at every law school in the nation and at key Christian colleges.

Our Three-fold Ministry

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. Matt. 22:37-40

These two great commandments compel us to cultivate a heart for "knowing God" and for serving our neighbors. In the context of LSM ministry on law school campuses, this involves three interdepenedent activities:

1. Spiritual Formation:  Cultivating spiritual growth through communal prayer, spiritual disciplines, fellowship, and worship; learning to share one's faith; and developing devotional study of the Bible and familiarity with classic Christian works.

2. Compassionate Outreach:  Showing the love of Christ to the campus and surrounding community by proclaiming the gospel in word and in deed, such as through a life of integrity and charitable good works, or as Martin Luther put it, "to be as Christ to our neighbor."

3. Christian Calling: Addressing the question, "What does it mean to be a Christian in law?" by learning to submit every aspect of one's calling in the legal profession to Christ's authority.
