In August of every year, every registered CLS student chapter will receive a Kick-Off Packet, containing valuable materials such as Bible studies, resource lists, posters and the current LSM Student Chapter Manual. This manual provides answers to most of the questions that student leaders have. Student chapter leaders and advisors should read the manual! If you are a student chapter leader or advisor and have not received a Kick-Off Packet for the current school year, please contact LSM at (703) 642-1070, ext 3304 or lsm@clsnet.org and leave your name, school, position, address, phone number, and email address.
CLS has put together a small library of Bible studies for student or attorney small groups. They are available for download.
Through the Instiute for Christian Legal Studies, our cooperative ministry with Regent Law School, we have developed a comprehensive web resource for Chrsitian law students and lawyers. Visit CrossandGavel.org for an extensive and interactive bibliography, links, podcasts, and news feeds.
For your weekly meetings, browse our studies and materials.
Of particular interest is our weekly podcast, focusing on Christian calling in the law, and the Summer Reading Program for law students.
The continued success of LSM from year to year depends upon a smooth transition of campus leadership on each campus and close communications with the LSM staff. If you are a campus leader, please be sure to report the full contact information for new officers each year after they are selected in the spring. This will ensure that your chapter will recieve the Resource Packet and other information from the national office. In addition, please be sure to keep LSM updated on your chapter advisors, whether law professors, InterVarsity staff members, or CLS attorneys.
If you are a student leader and are not listed in our Key Contact List, or if your information is incorrect, please contact LSM at (703) 642-1070, ext. 3304 or lsm@clsnet.org and provide us with your name, school, position with chapter, address, phone number, and email address and expected year of graduation.
In the fall of every year, CLS hosts the CLS National Conference. This year's conference is in San Diego, California. In conjunction with this event, LSM conducts its National Law Student Convention (NLSC) - a time for students to come together for fellowship, sharing, mutual encouragement, and training. In addition to awarding NLSC scholarships for students to attend the convention, LSM will help students to raise money to attend this event through their local chapter.
Our desire is that new graduates make a smooth transition into CLS attorney membership so that they are able to locate like-minded attorneys in their practice areas, network with CLS members in their new locations, and so they can take advantage of CLS resources in this critical time of professional development. To help make the transition happen, CLS offers students who are CLS members in good standing during at graduation renewal for only $25.00, covering their first year of practice. This is made possible by generous donations from CLS attorneys who want to help young lawyers make the transition into law practice as a part of the CLS family.
Students who are not CLS members at graduation may still take advantage of the program by joining CLS at the student rate ($15.00) plus the new attorney member rate ($25). At a total of $40.00, this is still a significant savings over regularl attorney dues.
To Apply, please send a request to lsm@clsnet.org indicating that you would like to take advantage of the New Attorney Membership Program. Please include your name, current address, permanent address (if different), phone number, fax, email address, law school, and the month and year of law school graduation. You may also call us at (703) 642-1070, x. 3304.
Please let us know, too, whether you are interested in serving the local student chapter as an advisor or mentor!
