Organization Overview of Ministry Areas

This page provides a broad overview of the administrative structure, roles, and responsibilities of CLS Ministry Areas (and their inter-relationships), CLS Directors and Staff, the Board of Directors, Senior Advisors, and various Points of Contact (to include POCs for States, Local CLS Chapters, and LSM Chapters).

The Christian Legal Society is organized by ministry areas that meet the needs of practicing attorneys, judges, and associates; law students; legal professionals and citizens concerned with religious freedom issues; as well as those concerned with legal aid to the poor and Christian conciliation.  To this end, the CLS website is compartmented into:

  • CLS - for the staff and directors
  • MM - for the practicing members and associates
  • CLRF - for law and religious freedom advocates
  • LSM - for current law students
  • LACC - for those involved with legal aid and Christian Conciliation.

Christian Legal Society (CLS) ministry area composes the leadership, board of directors, staff, and various associates that administer policy and direction for the entire society.  It is composed of an Executive director and a volunteer board of directors headed by men and women of faith who believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and that those in the legal profession should follow His example of concern for his fellow man.  The staff is located near the nations capital in order to affect policy makers and legislation important to the membership.  Individuals that are not lawyers but are concerned with ethics and its effect on the legal profession are served by this ministry as well.

Center for Law and Religious Freedom (CLRF) ministry is focused on religious liberty issues and the impact of law on those issues.  This ministry serves the needs of churches and charities concerned with charitable donations, religious freedom, freedom from civil persecution, and a host of other prominent issues.

Membership Ministries (MM) write-up under construction.

Law Student Ministries (LSM) ministry area serves the current law student population of the United States and its territories.   This is an area where law students can find resources and establish long distance and long lasting connections with other like-minded law students throughout the country as well as establish relationships with Christian law practitioners that will provide advice and mentoring services to fellow believers.  Law Students will find deep discounts available for law resources.

Legal Aid and Christian Conciliation (LACC) ministry area is actually two different aspects of law that concentrates on legal help for those who can least afford it and for conciliation and restoration of parties that are in contention with each other.  This ministry area is truly based on Christian principles of compassion and forgiveness.  Christian lawyers are called to help those less fortunate than they are by ministering in the area of law and to help settle differences between parties outside the courtroom if possible.  LACC is designed to provide resources and assistance for those Christian lawyers who desire to fulfill their calling in this arena.
